Seoul Street Foods
Imagine walking through the streets of Seoul — steam curling up from food carts, sizzling spices in the air, and the comforting sound of vendors calling out their specialties. In this class, we’re bringing that energy and flavor into our kitchen to celebrate Korea’s most iconic street foods.
We’ll start by rolling up our sleeves (literally) to make Kimbap, Korea’s colorful seaweed rice rolls. Ours will be packed with a savory mix of bulgogi-style beef, pickled radish and burdock root, krab, sautéed spinach and carrots, eggs and fish cake—each bite a perfect balance of texture and flavor.
Next, we’ll dive into the world of Tteokbokki, the ultimate Korean comfort food. But we’re not just opening a package—we’ll be making our own Garae-tteok (rice cakes) from scratch! Then we’ll transform them into two irresistible versions: the classic sweet-and-spicy tteokbokki with a homemade sauce made with gochujang, and a creamy, dreamy Rose Tteokbokki that adds a velvety twist to the traditional heat.
To round out our street food feast, we’ll fry up a batch of Yachae Twigim, a light and crispy assortment of deep-fried vegetables. Think delicate enoki mushrooms and fragrant perilla leaves, battered and golden, just like you’d find at a late-night market stall.
This class can easily be customized per student to make pescatarian, vegetarian, and/or vegan versions of the dishes (please reply to the confirmation email after registering).
This class is taught by Jee Hye Kang. Jee Hye grew up in the bustling city of Seoul, South Korea, and still has fond memories of day trips to the mountains and picnicking with family.
